Shana DeSmit - Vice President, Walmart Learning & Development

Shana began her career with Walmart in 1991 as a cashier in Mattoon, IL and progressed through several roles in store operations. In 2006, she began taking on market and regional level roles, including regional director of operations, market manager, regional operations support director as well as market human resource manager. Promoted to vice president, Regional General Manager in 2015, Shana was soon asked to lead the Urgent Agenda and Fresh LEGACY projects in Central Operations as Vice President - Fresh Operations. In her current role as vice president, learning and development, she is leading the transformation of training as a transaction to “Learning without Limits”.

In late 2016, Walmart’s learning and development team recognized the need to increase the pace at which they deliver high-quality, highly engaging learning content to their 1.5 million U. S. associates, given the rapid changes and increased competition occurring in the retail sector. Agile was selected as a means to expand output, maximize development capacity, and create quality learning experiences.
